We believe our vision reflects our role as a part of a community network of people and organizations to strive to continuously improve life in Boulder Junction for everyone.

The Boulder Junction Community Foundation is a 501(c)3 public charity dedicated to helping people and local organizations carry out their charitable wishes for the Boulder Junction community. Our major focus is to create an endowment fund that will benefit the community for a very long time. As it grows, the endowment’s earnings will be used to award grants to local organizations for charitable projects or programs in the community.

We are an affiliate partner of the Community Foundation of North Central Wisconsin. This enables us to offer donors a variety of safe, simple, and effective giving and fund options to accommodate a donor’s unique financial circumstances, charitable goals, and tax and estate planning objectives. Donors are able to give stocks, real estate, and other assets to the Foundation or create a fund to support a charitable purpose of their own choosing. Experienced staff are available to work with donors and their professional advisors to design a giving plan that meets a donor’s specific charitable goals.

The Foundation is also able to act as a fiduciary for handling short-term fund raising campaigns for a specific community project.

No. The Boulder Junction Community Foundation is completely independent and has no connection with any level of government.

Our affiliate status allows the Boulder Junction Community Foundation to have the benefits of a large community foundation without the higher expenses of the office and expert staff required to administer a foundation. The larger foundation with its proven stability and expertise handles the investment of funds, primary record keeping, nonprofit tax requirements, and other business matters for an annual fee. The Boulder Junction Community Foundation, through its local affiliate board, focuses on

  • Promoting public awareness of the Boulder Junction Community Foundation and conducting fundraising activities related to building the Boulder Junction Community Restricted Endowment Fund.
  • Providing a process and guidelines for administering grants.
  • Assessing the current and future needs of the greater Boulder Junction area for distribution of endowment earnings.
  • Advising the Community Foundation of North Central Wisconsin on grant distributions to be made from the Boulder Junction Community Foundation funds.
  • Maintaining proper records of Boulder Junction Community Foundation's affiliate board business according to legal requirements.

No, all are important resources to the community. The Boulder Junction Community Foundation is not like other charitable organizations in the Boulder Junction area. Its major focus is long term endowment funds that will benefit the community for a very long time. In fact the Boulder Junction Community Foundation will in the future provide grants to many of our local organizations to help them to carry out their important work in the community. Another way of thinking about how the foundation is different is that many of our area's charitable organizations are more like a checking account, raising and distributing money annually, for community needs. Meanwhile, the Community Foundation is more like a savings account, distributing earnings from long-term funds invested for perpetuity for a wide range of community needs for the present and the future.

The Boulder Junction Community Foundation offers a wide variety of giving and fund options through the Community Foundation of North Central Wisconsin. The Boulder Junction Community Foundation's primary fund is an endowment fund, meaning the principal remains and continues to grow over time while the earnings will be used in the future to award grants for important community causes. There may be future “shorter term” project funds that you can donate to – for example, construction of a new community center with a town library. In addition, you can establish your own fund. Because the legal apparatus is already in place, staff can meet with you to discuss your charitable intentions and explain the kinds of funds that can be established and the variety of ways to give. Your fund can be named to honor your family or the charitable intention you wish your fund to support.

In general, you can contribute cash, securities or real estate whenever and as often as you care to. There are many options, including “planned giving”. You can donate a new or existing life insurance policy, assign the dividends, or name the Foundation as a beneficiary; you also can make bequests in your will. In fact, the next time you're dealing with tax planning or estate planning issues ask your attorney or tax advisor about the advantage of contributing to the Boulder Junction Community Foundation.
